This position oversees all operations in support of Janney’s Tax Reporting and Cost Basis functions and leads a team of 5 Operations Associates. The tax reporting and cost basis department is responsible for the accurate cost basis in client’s accounts across the firm along with the timely production of annual tax forms including IRS forms 1099, 1042s, 5498, etc. The department is also responsible for backup withholding remittance to the IRS, estate valuations and the taxability of daily corporate actions. The Department Manager will function as a contributing member of the Operations Management team and work closely with other departments within Operations, Compliance and across the firm, as necessary.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of Operations Associates to achieve service goals and objectives. Specific supervisory tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Provide work direction to associates and coordinate workflow within the team.
  • Interview, select, and train new associates on Janney policies and procedures.
  • Provide positive and constructive feedback to associates on their performance and development needs both routinely and through annual performance reviews.
  • Participate in strategic and operational decision-making related to Tax Reporting and Cost Basis Operations, including developing short- and long-term goals to improve overall client service.
  • Proactively recommend innovations and modifications aligned with industry requirements and corporate goals to improve operational processes, systems, policies, procedures, and the department’s reputation.
  • Organize and execute department projects on time and within budget, including writing business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and Janney policies by creating an effective control environment.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Janney’s Tax Reporting products, policies, and procedures.
  • Work with Tax Reporting vendors on product enhancements, upgrades, and bug fixes.
  • Resolve escalated issues and disputes for the team.
