  • Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in a tax or tax-related technical role, including at least two years of experience as a tax manager. Experience in tax law, regulations, and planning strategies.
  • CPA licensure required.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Tax Senior Manager oversees comprehensive tax compliance and review processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance across all levels of tax returns and workpapers. They play a pivotal role in tax planning activities to optimize client outcomes, manage client relationships, and serve as a mentor to team members. Also, they lead strategic initiatives within the firm, championing process improvements, fostering a positive work environment, and driving business development efforts to support the firm’s growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct review of tax returns and workpapers, ensuring accuracy and compliance for projects you manage and/or sign.
  • Develop and communicate review comments, suggestions, and tax return changes to tax preparers that meet tax compliance guidelines.
  • Engage in tax planning activities, identifying opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial outcomes for clients.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering proactive solutions to address their tax concerns and achieve their financial goals.
  • Manage client relationships, serving as the primary point of contact and addressing client inquiries and concerns. Maintain an advisory and consultative relationship with clients.
  • Proactively address and anticipate client needs and advocate for firm services (including cross-selling), instilling confidence and credibility.
  • Learn and understand the business and industry of clients.
  • Interface with taxing authorities and assist in gathering information for federal, state, and local tax audits, as needed.
  • Expand expertise in identified specialties, including industry and tax return types. Be an internal resource for team members within identified specialty, answering questions and providing support.
  • Stay up to date on tax laws, regulations, and industry trends, sharing relevant information and insights with internal team members and external clients.
  • Engage in research and technical discussions.
  • Communicate effectively, setting clear expectations for team members and clients.
  • Utilize strong relationship management skills to build rapport with internal team members and external stakeholders.
  • Train, develop, and mentor staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment. Be a champion for firm culture and core values. This includes providing constructive feedback and identifying opportunities for growth and training.
  • Collaborate with other service groups within the firm to provide comprehensive solutions to clients.
  • Meet productivity goals.
  • Meet internal and client deadlines.
  • Begin to think strategically about functions of the firm including client management, internal processes and procedures, and future growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate and implement internal process and procedure improvements.
  • Manage firm administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing, and new client proposals.
  • Participate in firm-sponsored events and activities.
  • Participate in team and firm non-charge activities of interest, such as:
  • Recruiting activities, including interviewing, evaluating candidates, and participating in hiring decisions.
  • Developing internal processes, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Developing training materials and leading training sessions.
  • Leading an internal committee or initiative.
  • Serving as a Career Advisor to tax team members, monitoring team member performance, providing feedback, and facilitating growth opportunities.
  • Spearheading business development efforts, including attending industry events, networking with potential clients, and presenting technical topics.
