Description of Work This position serves as a regional Nurse Consultant for tuberculosis (TB) control within the Communicable Disease Branch of the Division of Public Health. The primary function is to provide expert consultation, technical assistance, and quality assurance support to local health departments across multiple counties in Central North Carolina. The role includes monitoring TB program activities, supporting clinical and operational improvements, and ensuring alignment with state and federal guidelines. The Nurse Consultant also engages with healthcare providers, community organizations, and the public to promote TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Nurse Supervisor. - Provide consultation and technical assistance to local health departments on TB case management, contact investigations, and infection control practices. - Monitor and assess TB program activities at the local level to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines and promote quality assurance. - Collaborate with healthcare providers and public health partners to support accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and timely reporting of TB cases. - Review and revise TB-related forms, documents, and policies for state and local use, including updates to the North Carolina Tuberculosis Policy Manual. - Analyze surveillance data and program metrics to identify trends, evaluate outcomes, and support data-driven decision-making. - Participate in the planning, development, and coordination of TB control initiatives and educational outreach efforts. - Respond to inquiries from medical and nursing staff, providing expert guidance on TB progression, treatment protocols, and public health recommendations. - Conduct site visits and provide training to local health department staff on TB program standards, documentation, and best practices. -Serve as a liaison between the state TB program and local agencies to ensure consistent communication and program alignment. - Support emergency response efforts and public health investigations related to TB outbreaks or high-risk populations. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $64,211.00 - $105,949.00 Recruitment Range: $62,040.00 - $90,620 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Demonstrated experience conducting clinical assessments and providing consultation on tuberculosis treatment and infection control using current CDC and state guidelines. Documented experienced in analyzing surveillance data and program metrics using intermediate-level tools such as Excel or similar platforms to support program evaluation and reporting. Experienced in developing and delivering training sessions or technical assistance to local health departments on tuberculosis case management and contact investigation protocols. Demonstrated ability to review and revise public health documentation, including forms, policies, and procedural manuals, to ensure alignment with regulatory standards and program goals. Experienced in coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to implement tuberculosis control strategies and respond to high-risk or complex public health scenarios.
