Description
Battery Internal Thermal System Development Manage interface between cells, arrays, and any other battery internal cooled components and battery thermal management system Evaluate and manage cooling needs of all components inside the battery pack Manage battery internal thermal environment and component Maximum Design Temperatures (MDTs) Manage interface between battery internal thermal system and cell vent management system Develop temperature transfer/inference functions for cells and other Comps. Calibrate and apply temperature transfer/inference functions for cells and other Comps. Work with BECM team to establish relationships to foster enhanced temperature Management strategies (Transfer/Inference Function) Manage internal pack coolant flow distributions Manage thermistor placement strategy Develop system designs for robustness to coolant leaks Develop and manage clearer traceability and connection between component, sub-system, and system level durability needs Support pack and array level humidity and condensation testing and requirements development Manage interfaces between battery and powertrain cooling Manage thermal interface between battery exterior and exterior environment including all heat management aspects Manage design for external fire resistance and associated verification methods Develop and enhance tighter coupling w/ controls, calibrations, and LIT teams Work with CAE team to evaluate drive cycles used in CAE and associated ICs/BCs Develop short and long term strategies for battery thermal systems architectures Support all program thermal system reviews and various sign-offs (FEDE, DRPs, etc.) Develop core and FMA documents related to battery thermal system Support and manage any field issues related to battery thermal systems Support competitive benchmarking and research activities. Collaborate globally with the Ford technical community to foster communication, process improvements, and advancements Established and active employee resource groups MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering 5+ years of thermal system engineering experience including battery thermal systems. Six Sigma Black Belt certified (or in process of becoming certified) Thermal and Fluid Systems Expertise: Possess deep expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermal systems, including their interactions with other systems. This includes strong knowledge of heat management/protection systems, battery internal thermal system components, performance, and associated metrics. System Design, Modeling, and Controls: Demonstrate strong knowledge of control systems, with proven experience in developing models to support system design. This also includes experience in developing requirements, design rules, test methods, and evaluating new concepts and design ideas. Quality Assurance and Problem Resolution: Strong experience in developing foundation documents (e.g., DFMEA, P Diagram, B Diagram, SCCAF) and resolving field issues. Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication: Exhibit excellent communication, teaching, presentation, and analytical skills. Possess broad interpersonal skills to facilitate teams, effectively interface with diverse D&R engineering, CAE analysis, Controls, Testing, and Thermal Management teams, and manage priorities under operational pressures. Competitive Intelligence: Maintain knowledge of Battery Internal Thermal System (BITS) designs from competitors.
