The Eskasoni School Board is accepting applications for five (5) Teacher Assistant vacancies.
Job title: Teacher Assistant
Job type: Full time - Term
Start Date: Anticipated start date September 22, 2025
Salary Range: $35,656 to $40,128
Job Summary: The TA will play a vital role in the classroom working to support teachers working with individual or small groups of students with special needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Teacher Assistant or Early Childhood Education certificate an asset
  • Experience working with children exhibiting challenging behaviours
  • Fluency in English and Mi’kmaq
  • Ability to support students with technology and academics
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position and provide personal care as required
  • Possess basic computer skills
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Assist students with physical & mobility challenges as specified in their program plan;
  • Assist students with routines by lifting and positioning, exercising, transferring from or to transportation;
  • Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting;
  • Help students individually or in small groups with assignments and reinforce learning and retention concepts under the supervision of the classroom teacher;
  • Monitor and report student progress to classroom teacher;
  • Accompany and supervise students during activities;
  • Assist with personal care such as, toileting and personal hygiene;
  • Assist with program support as directed & monitored by the teacher;
  • Assist with safety and behaviour management under the direction of the program planning team;
  • Encourage students to respect the school’s code of conduct.
