Description Job Description Job Title: Teacher Assistant Supervisor Teacher Department: Children’s Services FLSA Status: Hourly Summary The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assistant in implementing all components of the children’s services curriculum within his/her designated classroom in a manner which is reflective of KCARC’s mission to advocate and provide opportunities in dignified and respectful manner for the total well-being of individuals and families with special needs. Essential Duties Adhere to KCARC’s quality policy of striving to continuously improve delivery of all services and products to children’s services customers meeting or exceeding requirements. Assist the classroom Teacher in maintaining a developmentally appropriate and language rich classroom environment, making use of space, equipment, and materials to construct learning environments that support learning, socialization, and play for all children. Assist the classroom Teacher in the following food program duties: sanitize tables before and after snacks and meals, assist children in serving food, assist in feeding children when needed, act as a role model for good table manners during meal and snack times, assist children in tidying room after meals and snacks, and offer children drinks and provide children with drinks on demand. Keep classroom Teacher, the Director of Children’s Services, and all other children’s services staff informed of all issues, problems, and concerns that arise. Assist children in personal hygiene matters such as washing hands and faces as needed, assist in diapering and potty training, assist children in wiping/blowing their nose, and assist in dressing as needed. Provide close supervision of children at all times by keeping all children within sight and sound at all times and by ensuring attendance clipboard is present and accurate at all times. Provide needed leadership and classroom management in classroom during Teacher’s absence. Complete all necessary paperwork as directed by the classroom Teacher. Complete cleaning duties as directed by the classroom Teacher and Director of Children’s Services. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and work instructions Contribute to quality management system goals and objectives. Serve on committees as directed by the classroom Teacher or Director of Children’s Services. Participate in all staff meetings and in-service training sessions. Be able to frequently lift up to 75 pounds independently and over 75 pounds with assistance. All other duties as deemed necessary. Requirements Qualifications: Possess ability to maintain flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department. Maintain good hygiene. Possess excellent research and writing skills. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Possess the ability to use tact and empathy when dealing with people of varied backgrounds. Possess the ability to establish effective working relationships. Possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Be proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office products (Computer literate). Accept responsibility and demonstrate leadership. Be able to multitask effectively in a sometimes fast paced environment. Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Must possess a CDA or must begin working toward a CDA after first year of employment, or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Background experience in developmentally appropriate practices in an Early Childhood setting Must demonstrate insight, sensitivity, flexibility, and a strong desire to work with children Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: CPR/First Aid Ability to pass state required physical Physical Demands: The position requires staff to alternate from a sitting position to a standing position frequently. Repetitive motion required. Lifting, bending, twisting, and turning are required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally loud. Use of Personal Protective Equipment such as vinyl or latex gloves is occasionally required.
