Description

OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate teacher to lead Maths and English for learners with special educational needs and disabilities. You will deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching across Key Stages appropriate to your experience, and may be asked to teach other subjects as part of our broad, life-centred curriculum. You will help pupils make strong progress in core literacy and numeracy, build confidence, and meet EHCP outcomes.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Maths and English lessons matched to pupils’ needs, interests and EHCP targets.
  • Teach towards appropriate pathways such as Functional Skills, Entry Level, GCSE or bespoke pre-keystage curricula.
  • Scaffold learning with clear routines, visuals and structured language. Use assistive and adaptive technology where helpful.
  • Use robust assessment for learning. Track progress, moderate judgements, and adjust teaching based on evidence.
  • Implement positive behaviour support and trauma-informed practice to maintain a calm, safe classroom.
  • Work closely with TAs to maximise support and independence. Direct and develop their impact in lessons.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers through regular updates and constructive meetings.
  • Collaborate with therapists and external professionals to integrate SALT, OT and wider strategies into teaching.
  • Contribute to wider curriculum offers including PSHE, life skills, ICT, creativity and outdoor learning where timetabled.
  • Take responsibility for a tutor group and contribute to safeguarding, attendance and personal development.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom environment, display, resources and safety.
  • Engage in professional development and share practice across the team.
  • Fulfil all duties in line with Teachers’ Standards, the SEND Code of Practice and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
