An opportunity is available for a licensed Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) and Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to serve a K-12 school district. This contract position, based in Hayward, CA, spans the 25/26 school year and involves itinerant work within the district. The role demands in-person service delivery to support students with visual impairments across various school settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and mobility training tailored to students with visual impairments.
  • Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Assess student needs and adjust strategies to ensure accessibility and independence in their educational environment.
  • Support students in navigating school facilities safely and independently.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families, educators, and related service providers.

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification/license as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI).
  • Certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS).
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an itinerant role within the district.
  • Commitment to providing in-person services.

Work Schedule and Location:

  • Full-time position available with the option for part-time candidates to split caseload responsibilities.
  • Position duration covers the full 2025-2026 school year.
  • Role requires in-person attendance at various school sites throughout the district.
