The Yukon Government is seeking a dedicated and innovative Lead Literacy Specialist Teacher to support the development of high-quality literacy instruction across our classrooms. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, administrators, and curriculum staff to enhance student learning and achievement in literacy for grades K-12 students.
This position is ideal for an experienced educator who is passionate about literacy, and driving instructional improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in teaching literacy
  • Possession of a Master’s Degree or post-graduate coursework in early literacy, reading or primary education would be an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 year’s classroom teaching experience with a focus on literacy at the primary or secondary level.
  • Experience working in a collaborative and professional learning environment;
  • Experience using a variety of literacy intervention strategies to support students;
  • Experience coaching educators in literacy instruction and data-informed practices
  • Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with teachers, administration and Departmental staff;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Ability to critically problem-solve, synthesize and use a variety of data to improve practices at the individual student, classroom, school, Department and Territory level;
  • Ability to assist with and promote Literacy Intervention in Yukon using various strategies and resources, including planning and delivery of professional development (facilitating in-services, workshops etc.);
  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team;
  • A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations People and a culturally-diverse student population;
