Description To foster a dynamic and creative learning environment that engages students in the Language Arts curriculum and concepts through student-centered, differentiated instruction. Prepare engaging, age-appropriate lessons that reflect extensive knowledge of the curriculum and student development and abilities. Serve as a liaison between the Language Arts department and school leadership, communicating needs, priorities, and successes. Support the planning, alignment, and ongoing refinement of the middle school Language Arts curriculum to ensure consistency, rigor, and vertical coherence. Assist with curriculum documentation, resource selection, and the alignment of instructional materials. Serve as an advisor to a group of middle school students. Monitor students’ progress, strengths, and weaknesses, and communicate these when necessary to parents/guardians and administrators. Prepare substantive parent-teacher conference reports and written documentation on student progress. Participate in regular collaboration meetings focused on curriculum development, assessment practices, and student progress. Attend and contribute in full, divisional, departmental, and team faculty meetings. Collaborate with colleagues across the middle school as well as the English department. Utilize a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles. Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences. Stay abreast of the latest advances in Language Arts education. Demonstrate strong classroom management. Meet deadlines for reporting grades. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in English, English education, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years of lead teaching experience required. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of middle school Language Arts and pedagogy. Ability to uphold strict confidentiality, model professionalism, flexibility, and leadership aligned with the mission and values of the school. Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects those values of the school. Ability to interface and maintain effective and professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, parents/guardians, and students. High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency in Google Suite required. Strong understanding of curriculum design, vertical alignment, and assessment practices at the middle school level. Proven ability to mentor, coach, and support colleagues through observation, feedback, and collaborative planning.
