Description

Full-time position (part-time considered)
We are a small, family-run independent school for students aged 11–16 with a range of special educational needs. Many of our learners have Autism and/or ADHD alongside social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. They often present with high levels of anxiety and low self-esteem, so creating a nurturing and supportive environment is at the heart of what we do.
A distinctive part of our school is our Equine Yard, home to around 40 horses. Students regularly access the yard for lessons and interventions, which forms a key part of our therapeutic approach. Teachers are not expected to have prior equine experience, but should be open to supporting students in all aspects of school life, including activities outdoors and on the yard.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable SEND Teacher who can deliver engaging lessons while supporting students’ wider personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons tailored to students’ individual needs.
  • Foster positive relationships and promote emotional wellbeing, following our restorative behaviour policy.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching and Behaviour Support Assistants to ensure effective learning and classroom management.
  • Support students when dysregulated and unable to access the classroom.
  • Contribute to enrichment activities including equine sessions, forestry, cooking and other practical subjects.
  • Monitor, assess and record student progress in line with school policies.
  • Prepare resources and maintain an organised, engaging classroom environment.
  • Participate in interventions and whole-school wellbeing activities.
  • Engage in CPD and training to continue professional growth.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, responding to the changing needs of our learners.

Important Information

  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm (students on site 8:45am–3:45pm).
  • Contracts: 52 weeks with 28 days paid holiday (pro rata for part-time), to be taken during school holidays.
  • Staff uniform (purchased via School Trends) required.
  • Term times broadly follow Derbyshire dates, with an additional 3 weeks’ holiday due to our extended school day.
  • Staff meetings: fortnightly after school.
  • 6-month probation period.
  • Private healthcare scheme available after probation.
  • Ongoing CPD and training opportunities.
  • Tiered pay structure based on experience and qualifications, with clear progression routes.

Recruitment Process

  • All applicants require two references (including one from your most recent employer) and a DBS check (arranged by the school).
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, with the opportunity to tour the school and meet the team.
  • Successful applicants will then complete a half-day trial to ensure a good fit before offers are made.

If you are passionate about making a real difference to young people’s lives, we would love to hear from you.
