With a diverse team of about 160 full-time staff representing over 16 nationalities, our community is proactive, passionate, and supportive, making it an exciting place to live and work.  West Island School is seeking to appoint a Full-Time Teacher of Biology on a two-year contract starting in August 2026, renewable by mutual agreement.  We are looking for an innovative and dedicated teacher who can inspire students in Biology and foster a strong interest in STEM subjects while collaborating with colleagues across the Faculty of Science, including Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS), and Chemistry. Key Responsibilities * Deliver engaging lessons in Science education for students across various age groups, following the MYP, iGCSE, and IBDP curricula. * Develop and implement coursework that aligns with these programs, focusing on key concepts, practical applications, and scientific inquiry. * Collaborate with the Head of Faculty and a team of 14 science teachers to develop innovative teaching units. * Assess and evaluate student progress in line with program expectations, providing constructive feedback to support their growth. * Utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement. Expectations * Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning within the teaching team. * Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth. * Utilize the exceptional resources and facilities available to maximize student potential Pastoral Care * Serve as a form tutor/home room teacher to a group of approximately 30 students, supporting their holistic development through pastoral work Extra-Curricular Contributions * Actively participate in extra-curricular events and activities, either through personal interests or in support of student-led initiatives. Educational Requirements & Qualifications * Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent. * Experience teaching Biology across the full age and ability range up to and including Year 13 (IB Higher or equivalent). * Strong commitment to inclusion and effective differentiation in teaching. * Previous full-time teaching experience of at least two years. Desirable Requirements * Experience teaching practical laboratory work, experimental design, and data analysis in Biology, with a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning. * Familiarity with the integration of technology in science education, including tools for virtual labs, data logging software (e.g., Logger Pro), bioinformatics resources, or simulations. * Experience with MYP, iGCSE, and IB curricula related to Biology Professional Skills and Abilities * A proactive, adaptable, and passionate team player. * Commitment to inclusion and fostering a supportive learning environment. * Proven experience leading or contributing to extra-curricular programs. * Ability to work collaboratively in developing curriculum and pedagogy.
