Description
We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Chinese Teacher to join our dedicated, multilingual World Languages Department at Island School. This teaching role will be full-time and is offered on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, between January and May 2026. Island School is a highly successful IB secondary school located in the heart of Hong Kong. Over 1400 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed interdisciplinary courses, the MYP, IGCSE, and IB programmes. This person will be responsible for delivering high-quality Chinese language instruction to secondary school students. The role will focus on fostering students' language skills, cultural understanding, and appreciation for the Chinese language through engaging and interactive lessons in alignment with the International Baccalaureate (IB) and GCSE curricula. Key Responsibilities Teach Chinese at different proficiency levels to ensure that instruction is differentiated to meet diverse learning needs. Provide regular assessment with progressive feedback. Foster a positive learning environment to encourage student confidence in language learning and culture education. Organise and engage in different extracurricular activities and language trips/programmes to promote student interest with immersive experiences. Key Requirements The successful candidate will have: Proficiency in Chinese with a strong understanding of Chinese culture. A relevant bachelor's degree and/or postgraduate teaching qualification. Proven experience in teaching at the secondary level within a recognised educational organisation, preferably with IBDP and IGCSE experience. Strong understanding of current pedagogy, with excellent practice exemplified in own teaching. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work effectively as part of a team. Proficient and experienced in utilising data analysis and learning technologies. Commitment to contribute to the extra-curricular activities of the school.
