About us The British Council Bangladesh teaching centre in Dhaka serves around 500 young learners (aged 7-17) and 300 adult learners (mostly 18-34), offering face-to-face and online classes five days a week. Young learners follow Primary Plus and Secondary Plus courses to build English skills and overall development, with most classes on Fridays and Saturdays, while adults take IELTS Coach or MyClass courses to improve communicative competence. The academic year runs January to December, including short courses for O-level mid-year and winter camp. Teachers deliver lessons according to operational needs and participate in a strong culture of professional development through quarterly training and INSET programmes. Role Purpose The role supports the British Council's global English strategy by delivering teaching to the highest standards of English language teaching (ELT), ensuring students receive quality instruction that aligns with international benchmarks. In addition, it emphasizes continuing professional development, encouraging the sharing of best practices among educators to foster a culture of learning and improvement within the organisation. Role Accountabilities Teaching and Student Support : Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons for different learners, considering individual learning styles. Monitor student progress, give regular feedback, and encourage learner independence. Help improve courses, materials, and complete teaching-related administrative tasks. Professional Development and Centre Contribution: Take part in professional development to maintain high teaching standards and support the teaching centre's activities. Assist the team in providing excellent customer service, uphold British Council values, and help enhance its reputation in English language teaching. Safeguarding and Compliance: Follow all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, and equality policies. Build positive relationships with students while ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment. Qualifications and Experience Candidates should hold a first degree (or equivalent) and a Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL, with high proficiency in English (IELTS Band 8/9 in all sections of the academic module). They should have at least 2 years of post-certificate teaching experience, including substantial hours teaching relevant age groups: Primary aged 6 to 10 (800+ hours) Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours) Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (800+ hours) Important information: Salary: Gross 76,600 - 1,03,400 BDT/month (depending on qualification and work experience). Transport allowance: You are entitled to receive a monthly transport allowance of BDT 9,000. Annual leave: 19 days paid annual leave in each calendar year, in addition to the public and official holidays recognised by the BC Services Bangladesh Limited, or the pro rata equivalent. You will also be entitled for sick leave, casual leave, and other types of leaves in line with our policy. Medical scheme: After completing the probation period, you and your declared dependents will be covered by the British Council Services Bangladesh Limited local staff medical scheme. Group insurance: All employees will be covered by a group insurance policy. Working hours: Standard hours of work are 7.5 (seven and a half) hours a day, excluding a 1 (one) hour break. The precise days and hours of your work will be agreed with your line manager. Contract type: Local Contract Contract Hours: 24 hours/week - depending on the teaching requirements. Work schedule: The working week is defined as any five consecutive days with a two-day weekend and 24-hour teaching delivery each week. Working hours may involve regular evenings up to 9:15 pm (and 9:45 pm during Ramadan). Please note that it will be a consecutive 5 days which includes Friday - Saturday both as your working days.
