Are you passionate about inspiring the next generation by teaching Health and Wellbeing skills in a practical medium, and in the classroom?
Ysgol Bro Dinefwr is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Health and Wellbeing Teacher to join our experienced team. This post (ideally) requires the ability to teach through the medium of Welsh, ensuring an inclusive and engaging learning environment for all students.
Ysgol Bro Dinefwr is a category 3 Transitional school located next to the town of Llandeilo, on the banks of the River Tywi, and in the shadow of Dinefwr Castle. It is a school of 1089 pupils providing education for pupils from year 7 – 13 as well as a specialist Autism unit for 42 pupils. Education is provided to pupils in a rural setting and on a new site that includes excellent learning resources. We are delighted to be able to offer innovative Health and Wellbeing education using our ’Natur’ Outdoor Education centre, which is an area of approximately one and a half acres with an outdoor stage, poly tunnels, a lake, and accommodation for our animals. Our goal is to create an environment of achievement and inclusion for all members of our community so that they can ascend to the wing of learning.
We are eager to appoint a female teacher that can develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that fit into the curriculum and are suitable for a variety of learning styles. The successful candidate will use innovative learning methods to foster curiosity and creative thinking among students providing constructive feedback and support to challenge their understanding of personal health and wellbeing, as well as the best ways to keep the body fit and healthy. In addition there will be a requirement to provide opportunities for pupils to develop their skills in a wide range of sports, which include Hockey, athletics and netball.
As a forward-looking department it will be necessary to work with the team to create diverse learning opportunities with a particular focus on developing an outdoor curriculum for pupils in years 7-9 in line with curriculum requirements for Wales. There are currently a wide range of pupils opting for Physical Education at GCSE level. The successful candidate will be called upon to teach a curriculum at least up to GCSE level, preparing pupils to meet the challenge of facing external exams and achieving high standards of achievement.

The successful candidate will be required to possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, with expertise in Sport and Physical Education
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience of teaching Physical Education/Sport at secondary level up to a minimum GCSE standard.

We offer staff a wide range of benefits which include a broad and comprehensive personal development programme, opportunities to work closely with peers within and beyond the area of Health and Wellbeing learning and departmental support to share learning resources and develop new plans. We pride ourselves on offering a supportive and nurturing environment with an ethos of sharing successful practices for the benefit of the entire community.
Anyone interested and/or requiring further information is invited to contact the Headteacher Mr Eirian Davies for an informal discussion (Telephone 01558 824800) or by email: eirian.davies@brodinefwr.org.uk.
