Description
We are looking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic teacher to join our dedicated Individual Learning Needs Team at Island School. This teaching role will be full-time and is offered on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave, between January and June 2025. Island School is a highly successful IB school located in the heart of Hong Kong. 1400 students aged 11 to 18 study an innovative and exciting curriculum combining our self-designed courses, the MYP, IGCSE, IBCP, IBDP and BTEC programs. Island School is an inclusive school and The Individual Learning Needs Department offers support to students to ensure their learning experiences and wider school experiences are inclusive and successful. The Individual Learning Needs Department works closely with staff across the school to ensure that responsive teaching strategies are part of the planned curriculum and that these strategies are successfully implemented in teaching and learning. Students at Island School have a range of needs and the school also runs a learning support class for students with levels of need that may need to be accommodated through withdrawal from mainstream classes and courses. The Individual Learning Needs Department works closely with other providers of student support including pastoral staff, Counsellors and the EAL department to support students to achieve their full potential within the curriculum and to participate fully in school life. The successful applicant will be a qualified teacher, with a background in supporting students with identified individual needs. You will have a very strong ability to build positive relationships with students of all profiles, and you will be skilled in motivating, inspiring and engaging with students in creative and innovative ways, ensuring inclusive and differentiated teaching both within and outside the classroom. Like all staff, you will also be a tutor, and will be expected to contribute effectively to extra-curricular programmes. Key responsibilities Teachers are expected to be committed and flexible. Regular duties for all teachers include: Planning lessons to meet each student’s individual learning needs and ensure excellent outcomes, in line with our Schemes of Learning; Using a range of appropriate strategies for positive classroom management, including the use of flexible groupings and structured inquiry, in line with the IBO philosophy; Using a range of well-considered resources, including digital technologies, to enhance learning; Maintaining a well organised and stimulating learning environment; Assessing students in relation to agreed learning outcomes, and providing clear and constructive feedback to students and their parents, using agreed South Island School reporting systems; Working closely with your allocated faculties on future developments; Engaging actively with the Values in Action and Making a Difference extra-curricular programmes.
