INFORMATION ABOUT THE POST
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
We have over 270 students studying A level Computer Science and almost 150 studying one of our IT courses (Level 2 IT and Level 3 BTEC IT).
The successful candidate/s will be highly skilled and enthusiastic, with the ability to teach programming. Experience teaching on the RQF BTEC IT specification and using Graphic Design programs will be advantageous. You will be able to deliver excellent, effective subject lessons and will model a friendly, team centred approach whilst being committed to working in pursuit of success for our students, department, and the College itself.
All students and staff use the Google Workspace as an essential tool for their teaching and learning, where students are expected to use both the Student Intranet and Google Classroom as part of their learning experience, lesson resources and independent study.
The successful candidate/s will also be expected to be a personal tutor, a role that will run alongside your teaching duties. Expected roles and responsibilities within your role as a personal tutor are supporting students with pastoral matters, supporting students with applying for higher education providers (using UCAS), undertaking 1-to-1 support sessions to review student progress and overall supporting students to maximise their potential within their studies.
We welcome applications from newly qualified or experienced teachers, and will consider part time applications; please indicate in your application your preference. Ideally this position is to start 26th August, although we are interested to hear from people who can’t start on this date.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
