Description:
Teacher of Religious Studies – Full time
Required from September 2025.
Bedford Modern School (BMS) is an outstanding HMC independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-18. Our community is a friendly, happy and supportive one and all of the 350 staff members, spanning both teaching and non-teaching roles, help to make BMS a very special place to work.
We are looking to appoint a committed and suitably qualified Teacher of Religious Studies. Religious Studies is taught as a discreet and academically rigorous subject within the Humanities Faculty. The Religious Studies department follow the Eduqas A Level and GCSE (full course).
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly motivated teacher who can teach across the senior school and who can prepare pupils for GCSE and, potentially, A Level. In Year 7, students follow a unique Philosophy Course as part of their RS curriculum. The RS department is creative and collaborative and aims to develop curiosity and critical thinking through their teaching.
We strive to achieve the highest academic standards while encouraging all our students to achieve their best. We have a proven track record of academic success. The Faculty aims to encourage a lifelong fascination for learning in general and in Geography, History and Religious Studies in particular.
There are 15 teachers in the Faculty all of whom are specialists in one of the three subjects. Some members of the Faculty may teach more than one of these. The strength of the team is at the heart of the success of the Faculty. Highly desirable would be the ability to offer a second subject.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and fully prepared to undertake the demands of working in an outstanding independent co-educational day school. The department believe firmly in the importance of enriching students’ experiences.
We offer opportunities outside of the curriculum for pupils such as A Level conferences and a residential trip to Krakow for Years 10-13. Staff contribute to the wider co-curricular and pastoral experiences of BMS.
We warmly welcome applications from experienced teachers and ECTs, offering a supportive, caring programme to those starting out on their teaching journey. In return, we can offer an excellent working environment, 35 term-time weeks, a generous pension scheme, the option to be part of a medical insurance scheme and generous fee remission (subject to availability and entrance requirements).
We encourage applications from all communities as we want to have a workforce that reflects the social, cultural and ethnic diversity of our students.
Closing date: 8.00 am, Monday 10th February 2025
Interview: Thursday 13th February 2025
