TEACHER OF THE DEAF (TOD) OR LICENSED TEACHER W/ ASL PROFICIENCY (UP TO 1.0 FTE) NEEDED

Location: Champlain Valley Union High School
2025-2026 School Year, One Year

Qualifications:

  • Holds a VT Agency of Education license as a TOD or eligible to obtain one OR holds a Vermont Education License with licensure through grade 12.
  • High level of American Sign Language proficiency
  • Experience working with students with multiple disabilities (deaf/blind) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with adapting curriculum to meet individual student needs per an IEP

Specific Responsibilities:
This position will support a student with multiple disabilities who is identified as deaf/blind. The educational program provided is 4.5 hours/day, 5 days/week, with 90 minutes of planning time daily. This position will collaborate with a TOD supervisor, special educator, orientation and mobility specialist, general education teachers, and other related service providers and develop and deliver an individualized curriculum for this student.

Specific job responsibilities include (but may not be limited to) the following:

  • Collaborate with students’ educational team to develop and implement the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  • Develop long and short-term learning goals and program objectives according to program guidelines and the IEP.
  • Plan and execute lessons and activities reflecting IEP goals and objectives
  • Utilize a variety of techniques and materials to execute appropriate curriculum.
  • Utilize classroom management strategies and student motivation techniques to help keep student on task
  • Maintain a productive classroom environment.
  • Establish an instructional pace consistent with the student’s learning process.
  • Monitor student performance and progress, adjusting instruction as necessary.
  • Compile and maintain necessary records and progress notes.
  • Participate as a member of the student’s educational team.
  • Maintain orderliness and safety of instructional areas.
  • Prepare substitute plans.
