An opportunity is available for a skilled professional focused on supporting students with visual impairments through the production and management of accessible educational materials. This role centers around the accurate transcription and adaptation of instructional content into braille, large print, and electronic formats to meet each students needs.

Responsibilities include:

• Transcribing textbooks, workbooks, test materials, tactile maps, and graphs into various accessible formats
• Maintaining precise records and well-organized electronic files of all transcribed materials for current and future use
• Collaborating with teachers of students with visual impairments to adapt and modify materials appropriately
• Managing workload efficiently to ensure timely availability of resources for student use
• Staying updated on technology related to braille production and assistive devices
• Ordering and tracking necessary supplies for transcription and production tasks
• Establishing and maintaining a resource library for alternative accessible materials, including braille and large print
• Demonstrating strong command of English language conventions including spelling and grammar

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Valid Washington State teaching license and certification specific to visual impairments
• Fingerprints on file with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) prior to employment
• Ability to work onsite at multiple school locations within the district
• Willingness and ability to learn braille transcription methods
• Previous experience working as a Braillist or Teacher for the Visually Impaired is preferred but not required

This position is a contract role offering full-time (up to 37.5 hours/week) or part-time employment options. The term starts as soon as possible and continues through June 21, 2024, aligned with the district calendar. A 30-minute unpaid meal break applies to shifts over five hours.
