ABOUT US

The Slade School of Fine Art is an art school where staff and students approach contemporary art practice, and the history and theories that inform it through experimentation, imagination and research-oriented practice.
The Slade is a department of University College London (UCL) with a lively and dynamic practice led research culture. Staff are practising artists, writers and theorists with significant research outputs and exhibition profiles, actively involved in research and teaching.
In 2025, the Slade is launching a new BA Art and Technology programme, which is an interdisciplinary degree focused on the interconnections between art practice and a range of new and disruptive technologies. It will also open a new studio space at UCL East to support students, academic staff and researchers to explore the intersection of art, technology and society through critical enquiry and studio practice.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

The successful candidate will be educated to a minimum of A-level standard or equivalent professional experience, including GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, They will also have experience of working in Higher Education administration and working with students and programme administration.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The successful candidate will have good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear correspondence and consider the appropriate tone for the correspondence. They must possess the ability to relate to, and communicate with, staff and students at all levels, and signpost to Slade and UCL support services where appropriate, adapting approaches to a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. Fluency in standard Office software, including programmes designed to facilitate online work including MS Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Sharepoint is essential alongside strong organisational skills and the ability to manage the conflicting priorities and deadlines of a busy and varied workload, and prioritising tasks as and when necessary

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking to recruit a Teaching and Learning Officer who will support the administration of the academic programmes and modules offered by the Slade School of Fine Art, this includes our Undergraduate programmes, our Postgraduate Taught programmes and our Doctoral programme, as well as our Short Courses and Summer School.
The post holder will work as part of a small team providing mutual cover and support involved in supporting all Slade programmes and in particular BA Art and Technology. The post holder reports to the Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator who has responsibility for workload allocation, training and development, and for ensuring service standards are met.

The Teaching and Learning Officer will:

  • Act as a first point of contact for students and staff to provide information in response to queries about courses, admission and assessments.
  • Assist the Teaching and Learning Manager and the Senior Teaching and Learning Administrator to provide administrative support for all Teaching and Learning related processes, including admissions, induction and assessments.
  • Be a first point of contact in the department for student wellbeing.
  • Maintain student records and make sure that information is available as required.
  • Monitor the department’s shared inboxes responding to enquiries within accepted timeframes.

NOTE: The Faculty is currently reorganizing its Education Administration & Student Experience (EASE) function. This may result in changes to some of the specific duties and responsibilities of this position and its reporting line(s). This will be done in full consultation with the post holder. The post holder will be expected to implement change and support continuous improvement across the Faculty EASE function as this change process is undertaken across the Faculty, and on an ongoing basis subsequent to this.
