EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Good number/literacy skills.
  2. Training in relevant strategies to support learning.
  3. First aid training as appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

  1. Efficient material from GCSE to support learning.
  2. Use of other basic equipment and technology, e.g. video, photocopier.
  3. Understand relevant policies/code of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
  4. A general understanding of national/foundational period, 14-19 curriculum pathways, and other basic learning programme/strategies as appropriate.
  5. A basic understanding of the child’s development and learning.
  6. Ability to relate well to children and adults.
  7. Work constructively as part of a team, understanding class functions and responsibilities and your own position within those.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

  1. Work under the direction and guidance of teachers and/or members of the school management team.
  2. To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning.
  3. Assisting the teacher in managing pupils within the classroom and beyond.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. Supervising and providing special support for pupils, including those with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  2. Assisting with the learning and development of all pupils, including the implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes – including toileting, feeding and mobility.
  3. Following training, administer medication in accordance with the procedures and policies for the AALL and schools.
  4. To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  5. Encourage pupils to interact with others and to join in activities led by the teacher.
  6. Set challenging and stretching expectations and promote self-esteem and independence.
  7. Led by the teacher/teachers, provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
  8. Apply strategies to encourage independence and self-confidence.
  9. Provide efficient feedback to pupils in relation to programmes and recognise and reward achievement.
