Description:

SKILLS & PERSONAL QUALITIES:

  • Good written and verbal skills for report writing, maintaining child records and providing feedback to parents/carers and colleagues
  • Experience in undertaking observations for assessment of children
  • An understanding of inclusion, making the curriculum accessible to all learners including SEN, G&T and EAL
  • The ability to work in a team in order to achieve successful outcomes for learners
  • Good numeracy/literacy skills
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning
  • Use of IT equipment and technology – cameras, iPad, visualisers, video, photocopier
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
  • Ability to relate well to children and adults
  • Understanding of child development
  • Understanding of the relevance of childcare legislation
  • Understanding of health and safety and welfare issues within a childcare environment
  • Communication skills with a particular emphasis on oral skills

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) English (Grade 4) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent (Functional skills) Maths (Grade 4) essential

To support the provision of a high-quality educational experience for all students, including provision for health, safety, and welfare in line with the current pay and conditions document and National Standards for Teaching Assistants

  • Demonstrate an informed and efficient approach to teaching and learning by adopting relevant strategies to support the work of the teacher and increase the pupil’s achievement.
  • Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities for the individual, delivering activities inside or outside the classroom.
  • Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at helping the pupil achieve their full potential in all areas of learning.
  • Promote, support, and facilitate inclusion by encouraging the participation of the pupil in learning and extracurricular activities.
  • Use effective behavior management strategies consistently in line with the school’s policy and procedures.
  • Organize and manage teaching space and resources to help maintain a stimulating and safe learning environment.
  • Use ICT skills to advance the pupil’s learning.
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on the pupil’s progress, attainment, and barriers to learning through observations.
  • Monitor, record, and report on progress and attainment.
  • Read and understand lesson plans shared prior to lessons, if available.
  • Provide learning and care support for an individual pupil with special educational needs (SEN) to help work towards the outcomes on their education and health care plan (EHCP).
  • Build a positive relationship with the pupil, promoting high self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
  • Promote high standards of behavior, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behavior policy and guidelines on physical intervention.
  • Assist with the development and delivery of individual education, support, and care plans.
  • Support the pupil with their social, emotional, and mental health needs, escalating concerns where appropriate.
  • Work with the teacher to plan and deliver activities and support the pupil with routines, transitions, and behavior management

Responsibilities:

OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

Our teaching assistant apprenticeship (L3) programme will teach many different skills. You will be based in a classroom environment with young people. You will help support the young learners within their lessons and also be involved in planning lessons. (Students aged 4- 14 years old)
