Newport Live is seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to work to work alongside Youth Work and Teaching professionals, supporting the education and engagement of a small group of Year 10/11 pupils in a community setting.
We are looking for somebody with empathy, a great attitude, and who wants to make a difference to young people’s lives! Working day to day with pupils, alongside school teaching staff, and our passionate Aspire youth workers and teaching assistants, you will need to have some experience of working with children and young people ideally as a Teaching Assistant or have worked in a youth or community engagement setting / role, or even some really strong transferable experiences, knowledge and skills. Our Aspire pupils are typically aged 14-16 years old, disengaged from mainstream school, who need a different youth work focussed approach to help them to achieve their qualifications in a different environment, suited to their needs. We focus on wellbeing and providing inclusive extra-curricular activities, that help to break down barriers for our learners, alongside the completion of GCSE English and Maths, and a range of alternative qualifications which help to prepare them for life after school. Aspire operates in community centres close to each of the four Newport High Schools, and is an established youth progression programme that Newport Live (charity) lead in partnership with Newport City Council’s Education Department, and we are looking for a Teaching Assistant to support the running of the programme in from September onwards.
The role is term time plus an additional four weeks to be confirmed each year.
