Description
The Humanities and Social Sciences group at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is seeking applications for a 1-year Teaching Assistant position. The candidate will support students in courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences, particularly English courses or courses where students do substantial writing outside of class, such as history and philosophy courses. The candidate will also work closely with the Area Head to support initiatives in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The successful candidate should have a bachelor or a master’s degree in English, rhetoric, TESOL, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, or related field. The anticipated start date is August 15, 2026. Applicants should submit application materials electronically by July 15 through Workday including: • A cover letter (2-3 pages) • A CV As a Teaching Assistant for the Science Faculty Group, you will be responsible for supporting the educational and research mission of the campus by assuming relevant duties that include the following as assigned by your manager. -Classroom Assistance: Attend classes to support the instructor and assist with classroom activities. This also includes facilitating workshops, projects, and assignments, as directed by the course instructor. -Course Material Development: Collaborating with the course instructor in developing projects, assignments, and other educational material, as well as setting up the technological needs and labs for assigned courses. -Grading and Assessment: Lead on, or assist in, grading assignments, projects, and exams, and provide constructive feedback to the students on their work. -Writing Consultations: Offer one-on-one support to students on their writing. -Educational and Outreach Events: Contribute to the planning and execution of educational and outreach events aimed at engaging local and external communities. -Office Hours: Hold office hours to provide support and clarification to students that help them in understanding course concepts and completing assignments. -Proctoring Exams: Assist in the proctoring and supervision of exams as needed. -Other: Take on other activities that relate to the overall education and research mission of CMUQ.
