A specialist school in Whitehaven is seeking a compassionate and resilient Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs. This is a long‑term, temporary position with the potential to become permanent. Full‑time and part‑time applicants are welcome.

THE IDEAL PERSON AND SKILLS/EDUCATION NEEDED

You may come from a background in care, health, or social services and be looking for a new challenge within a school environment. What matters most is your patience, empathy, and commitment to helping every child thrive. A relevant qualification in care, health and social care, social work, or a related field is essential for this specialist setting. Experience with autism, sensory needs, or mobility support would be beneficial but not essential.

Working within a highly skilled and nurturing team, you’ll provide consistent, one‑to‑one and small group support to pupils with a range of complex learning difficulties and medical or physical needs. You’ll assist with personalised learning, emotional regulation strategies, communication tools such as PECS or Makaton, and physical or sensory activities tailored to individual needs. Personal care may be required.
