Description
We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide. For 90 years we have shaped brighter futures through education, arts, culture, language, and creativity. Working with people in over 200 countries and territories, we are on the ground in more than 100 countries. We connect. We inspire. The British Council in Tunisia is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Teaching Center Assistants. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the Teaching Centre by maintaining a child-safe environment and ensuring the well-being of our young learners through effective supervision and adherence to British Council policies on Child Protection and Child Safety. You will also be the first point of contact for customer queries within the Teaching Centre. Your responsibilities will include supervising young learners before and after classes, during breaks, and as they leave the premises. You will monitor key areas such as stairs, toilets, and public spaces throughout your shift, ensuring children aged 6-11 are always accompanied by a designated adult when leaving. You will assist children who are unwell, support fire drills, and provide classroom assistance to teachers when required. You will also ensure English is used at all times except where Arabic translation is necessary. Maintaining discipline is crucial, and you will help ensure young learners remain in appropriate areas and behave respectfully throughout the premises. At the start and end of each term, you will manage the distribution of registers, reports, certificates, badges, and relevant documentation, as well as collect forms designating carers for child pick-up. During the term, you will carry out periodic register checks, complete administrative tasks as required, and support the planning and delivery of events such as parent meetings and displays. At term's end, you may also assist with distributing report cards and certificates. Communication with parents forms an important part of this role. You will follow up on absences, contact parents who are late to collect their children, and notify parents if a child is unwell and needs to go home, supervising the child until collection. You will answer parents' general non-teaching queries and direct them to the appropriate staff when necessary. The ability to act as an interpreter in parent meetings is also required. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent written and verbal proficiency in English (B2 level or equivalent) and fluency in Arabic. A high school degree or equivalent experience is essential, as is prior experience supervising or working with children. Experience in customer service is desirable. Please note that all applications must be submitted in English. We encourage you to apply early to avoid any last-minute technical issues.
