YOU SHOULD APPLY IF
You are educated to A-level standard, proficient with Microsoft Office 365 tools and you have experience with accurate data entry and an eye for detail. You must have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and be confident upholding safety regulations and prioritising competing demands while working in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The ability to communicate effectively with staff, graduate teachers and undergraduate students and to signpost students to wellbeing support is essential.
THE ROLE
The School of Physics are seeking to appoint a senior administrative assistant, known internally as a ‘Teaching Lab Administrator’, to support the running of our undergraduate teaching laboratories. Based in the teaching labs and working with a small team of teaching technicians to prepare for and deliver practical sessions, you will be the primary administrator of our student records system and student mailboxes. As this is a teaching-focused role, the expectation is that all annual leave will be taken outside of teaching weeks.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Working under the direction of lead technicians you will assist with the day-to-day administration of the labs. This will include entering student timetables, marks and attendance data into the student records system, creating and distributing marking schedules to students and staff, and monitoring the lab mailboxes, responding to routine enquiries and escalating non-routine issues. You will be a regular point of contact for students and staff within the technician’s hub, issuing equipment, providing advice and guidance, and able to spot potential problems and direct students in difficulty to appropriate staff members for support. At busy times, you may be asked to support the technical team by setting up simple equipment for classes or outreach events under the supervision of the teaching technicians
