ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Earth Sciences, Geology, Physical Geography, or related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of recent and related experience with teaching labs and field research in the geosciences.
  • Experience planning, setting up, and developing experiential learning activities such as teaching lab experiments.
  • Experience organizing and implementing logistical details for field trips and experiences.
  • Experience with basic minerals, rocks and fossils for help with organizing, maintaining and expanding teaching collections.
  • Excellent manual dexterity skills to efficiently, accurately and safely operate laboratory equipment.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft 365 (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and online video/audio conferencing applications (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Strong communicator with excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated strong service orientation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Overseeing day-to-day operational needs for teaching labs, workshops, and field experiences related to courses
  • Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in teaching labs
  • Liaising with course instructors to coordinate experiential learning to compliment theoretical material
  • Determining and implementing logistical details required for field trips and experiences
  • Maintaining inventory and preparing equipment used in field courses
  • Analyzing potential experiential learning opportunities to determine suitability with student academic learning objectives
  • Providing orientation to others on lab equipment, working procedures and practices; serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment, including providing safety training and ensuring compliance to lab safety procedures and standards
