BACKGROUND:

Navanti is seeking an international expert with strong experience in supporting investment and access to finance for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) working in agricultural value chains, as a Team Lead in support of GIZ.
The successful candidate will be prepared to leverage their knowledge and experience in analyzing the business environment, selecting agribusiness actors to receive program support, developing and implementing tailored plans to address identified needs for investment readiness, and facilitating successful investments in selected businesses from both traditional and innovative financing sources, to support sustainable and inclusive growth within four key agricultural value chains in Nigeria - cocoa, ginger, tomato, and dairy.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Financial Management, Investment Finance, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 10 years’ professional experience supporting agricultural value-chain actors on investments and access to finance.
  • At least five (5) years’ project and personnel management experience.
  • Demonstrated track record (references) in all four lines of effort below:
  • Business model analysis & design for agribusinesses (2 projects)
  • Training agribusinesses on investment readiness/facilitation (2 projects)
  • Matchmaking between agribusinesses and financiers (2 projects)
  • Working with financial institutions to invest in agribusinesses (2 projects)
  • At least one (1) project reference in Nigeria, two elsewhere in Africa, and two outside Africa.
  • Language: Business-level fluency in English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience in one or more of the target value chains (cocoa, ginger, tomato, dairy).
  • Familiarity with innovative financing instruments
  • Demonstrated experience in investment facilitation

Responsibilities
  • Lead a three-phase work plan, in collaboration with Nigerian experts and GIZ stakeholders:
  • Phase 1 (Aug–Oct 2025): Conduct investment needs assessments for eligible agribusinesses.
  • Phase 2 (Oct 2025–Feb 2026): Analyze investor portfolios, financial products, and the feasibility of financing options.
  • Phase 3 (Mar 2026–May 2027): Develop and deliver bespoke investment-readiness support, business modeling, and matchmaking events to connect agribusinesses with investors.
  • Oversee the selection of agribusiness actors and design tailored support plans addressing identified gaps in investment readiness.
  • Facilitate events between selected agribusinesses and potential investors that lead to investments .
  • Supervise a small team of Nigerian experts, ensuring quality deliverables and adherence to timelines.
  • Prepare concise reports, presentations, and workshops for GIZ and other stakeholders.
