Job Description TEAM LEAD, OCCUPATIONAL, SAFETY & HEALTH Victoria The Opportunity At BC Ferries, safety is fundamental to how we operate. We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Team Lead, Occupational Safety & Health to play a pivotal role in strengthening our safety culture across the fleet. In this influential role, you will be a key member of the Safety team, leading Regional Safety Officers and working closely with operational leaders to ensure consistent, practical, and compliant safety practices across the organization. This position is well-suited for a hands-on safety professional who thrives in complex operational environments, enjoys mentoring others, and is driven to continuously improve workplace health and safety. You will also bring specialized expertise in occupational and environmental safety legislation, and play a central role in advancing our Hearing Conservation Program supporting Audiometric Technicians, Respirator Fit Testers, and program enhancements that protect the long-term health of our people. The Role Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Safety & Health, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as: Leading and supervising the Regional Safety Officers in the execution of their duties in Occupational Safety & Health; Supporting the OSH Manager by ensuring that the Regional Safety Officers are meeting the goals and expectations set in the annual OSH plan; Developing compliance testing schedule for fleet to ensure worksites maintain compliance performance standards; Supporting the BCF Hearing Conservation Program by providing program oversight and supervising the Audiometric Technicians and Respirator Fit-Testers as required, as well as developing and implementing program improvements; Serving as an ex-officio member of Toolbox, Site, and Regional Safety & Health Committees, advising on accident trends, safe work practices, corrective actions, and compliance strategies; Performing quarterly worksite inspections, monitoring regulatory compliance and recommending corrective and ergonomic risk mitigation actions; Investigating and analyzing safety incidents/accidents by reviewing Initial Assessment Reports (IAR’s) for root causes and appropriateness of corrective actions and recommending any further corrective actions required to managers; Participating in serious safety incident investigations according to Corporate Policy; analyzing accident trends identified in terminal and vessel safety performance and providing remedial action recommendations; Overseeing the process of administering ALERT reports, reviewing for appropriate response and resolve “fix” applications, enter ALERT Log and liaise with SSC on final resolution status; Aiding and advising BCF vessel engineering, terminal operations and terminal maintenance staff in identifying hazardous material in our worksites, including but not limited to asbestos containing material (ACM) and implementing appropriate safety controls through audits and inspections; Acting as an advocate for all Occupational First Aid Attendants in the fleet; Attending relevant industry seminars and informational/educational meetings as required; Providing orientation, guidance and informal training to other employees; Complying with all policies and standards. What you bring to the team Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Occupational Safety, Health & Environment or combination of relevant education, training and experience, or CRSP Designation or CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or CSO (Construction Safety Officer) as described by WorkSafeBC Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a Supervisor in an Operational or Occupational Safety role Minimum 2 years BCF operational experience or equivalent worksite experience with another employer (experience in marine industry preferred) Demonstrated safety leadership as a Joint Health & Safety Committee member, Trainer or similar safety initiative participation is preferred Advanced communication skills used to lead a team Understanding the role of the function and how it contributes to divisional goals Join us! The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate’s knowledge, experience and internal equity. Responsibilities
