Te Tūranga | About the Role: * Lead the daily unloading, sorting, penning, and movement of livestock * Ensure all work meets animal welfare, MPI, and site compliance standards * Build a strong, respectful team culture grounded in accountability and care * Coach and support an amazing team, helping them develop confidence and capability * Navigate challenging working relationships professionally and set clear expectations * Monitor animal health and condition, escalating issues when required * Maintain accurate documentation and meet all traceability requirements * Collaborate closely with processing, technical, and regulatory teams * Bring fresh eyes to processes, identify opportunities, and drive continuous improvement   Shifts & Availability Requirements: Most of the year, this role operates on Day Shift, with general hours between: * 5:30/6:00am - 3:30/4:00pm, Monday to Friday, with Saturday’s where required * Occasional evening unloading as required   Approx. 12-Week Seasonal Shift Change (Late July to End of October) * Processing shift adjusts for a 12‑week period * Start time moves to 12:00-1:00am, working through until 8:00am-12:00pm * Monday to Friday, with Saturdays where required   These shift changes are planned and form a regular part of our annual operating cycle which is communicated throughout the year.    Ōu Pūkenga | About You: We’re looking for someone who brings more than technical skill - someone who can positively influence and reshape the department: * A mature, steady approach to leadership * Strong technological capability, with confidence using and supporting digital systems * Excellent people skills, able to build trust and work effectively with diverse personalities * A solid understanding of Health & Safety, embedding safe practices daily * A continuous improvement mindset, always seeking better, safer ways of working * Fresh perspective to challenge constructively * Leadership that brings a younger team together, encouraging participation and accountability * Comfort leading in a tight‑knit West Coast environment where relationships and reputation matter * Professional resilience for managing more challenging workplace dynamics   Reporting to the Processing Manager, you’ll bring livestock handling or meat processing experience, along with strong knowledge of animal welfare, health and safety, and regulatory requirements. You’re a capable communicator, calm under pressure, and confident leading a dynamic team.  Experience working with MPI or animal welfare regulators is an advantage. Responsibilities
The Team Leader will oversee the daily operations including unloading, sorting, penning, and movement of livestock while ensuring strict adherence to animal welfare, MPI, and site compliance standards. This role also involves coaching the team, fostering a positive culture, monitoring animal health, and driving process improvements.
