The Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of a licensed before and after school care program, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children K-7. Working directly with program participants and supporting part-time staff, the Team Leader plans and facilitates age-appropriate activities that promote social-emotional development, creativity, and academic support.
The Team Leader serves as the primary on-site contact and supervisor, providing leadership in program planning, staff coordination, and communication with parents, school personnel, and community partners. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, delivering structured and flexible programming, ensuring the provision of healthy snacks, maintaining program supplies, and meeting all licensing requirements.
This position includes a combination of split on-site shifts and administrative planning time. The Team Leader is also responsible for liaising with the licensing officer, submitting monthly program reports, and ensuring the overall health, safety, and well-being of all children in the program. Hours may vary in alignment with school-based schedules, including early dismissals and Professional Development days.

EDUCATION AND KNOWLEDGE:

· Diploma in a related human or social service field.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

· Two (2) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Valid First Aid Certification

Responsibilities
  1. Facilitates a safe, organized, and inclusive environment for children in the before and after school care program, promoting social, emotional, and physical development.
  2. Plans, delivers, and adapts daily programming and developmentally appropriate activities using indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, individual and group formats, in accordance with the BC Early Learning Framework and licensing standards.
  3. Welcomes and orients new children and families to the program, ensures all enrolment documentation is complete and compliant with licensing requirements, and provides information on program goals, routines, and expectations.
  4. Leads group activities that foster peer connection, leadership, and emotional growth. Encourages participation and uses positive behavior guidance techniques to model and reinforce respectful interactions.
  5. Prepares and serves daily healthy snacks in accordance with FoodSafe standards, and maintains cleanliness and safety of both indoor and outdoor environments.
  6. Oversees day-to-day site operations by ensuring proper setup, equipment, supplies, and adherence to program policies, safety protocols, and licensing regulations. Responds appropriately to emergencies.
  7. Supervises and supports part-time staff and program volunteers, including task assignment, training, and daily coordination. Provides ongoing guidance and models professional conduct.
  8. Liaises with parents, school personnel, and community service providers to ensure clear communication, continuity of care, and effective referrals. Acts as an on-site representative of the program during community or school events.
  9. Monitors program expenditures, purchases snacks and materials within budget, maintains petty cash records, and submits receipts according to CCSS financial procedures.
  10. Maintains accurate attendance, enrolment, incident, and licensing-related records. Prepares monthly program reports and provides input into program evaluation, development, and funding reports as requested.
  11. Seeks regular supervision and maintains ethical conduct in line with the Child and Youth Care Association of BC’s Code of Ethics. Follows all licensing regulations and CCSS policies and procedures.
  12. Performs other related duties as required.
