TEAM LEADER – DEVICES TEAM

Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment and services for defence, civil defence, and key commercial customers.

As a Team Leader, you’ll be responsible for leading and supporting an operational team to ensure production, safety, and organisational standards are consistently met. You’ll play a key role in maintaining a high-performing, compliant, and engaged team, while driving continuous improvement across your area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent experience in an engineering discipline.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent; significant experience with Health & Safety systems will also be considered.
  • Experience in people and process management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated track record in leadership, continuous improvement, and the effective use of business systems (e.g., ERP, Maintenance, HSE tools).

Responsibilities
  • Lead the operational team, ensuring all activities are carried out in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, including reporting and responding to unsafe acts or conditions and maintaining a proactive Near Miss reporting culture.
  • Ensure team members understand and follow manufacturing documentation, operating instructions, and process requirements.
  • Manage timesheets, labour and material efficiency, and utilisation reporting, providing regular updates to the Production Manager.
  • Oversee completion of production orders, associated paperwork, and compliance with operational plans.
  • Maintain stock, equipment, and calibration records within your area of responsibility, ensuring availability and serviceability at all times.
  • Monitor material usage and waste levels, taking timely corrective actions where required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and ensure facilities are secure and well-managed.
  • Ensure team members are trained and competent in all tasks, with up-to-date training plans and documentation.
  • Lead the delivery of production plans, reporting on performance and implementing recovery actions when necessary.
  • Foster strong team communication through toolbox talks, shift handovers, and open engagement with staff.
  • Manage the performance of direct reports, including objective setting, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Represent the production area in reviews, documentation assessments, and operational planning.
  • Provide cover and support for other Team Leaders and deputise for the Production Manager when required.
