He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role We are looking for an experienced GIS Tech Lead to join our team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Development Manager, this is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for both the technical and product lifecycle of Watercare’s GIS business applications. The role is accountable for maximizing the value of the GIS platform by leading an established team of GIS specialists while also applying strong product thinking to ensure solutions are aligned to user needs, business outcomes, and long‑term platform strategy. This includes ownership across the full application lifecycle covering strategy, architecture, selection, deployment, operation, evolution, and retirement. You will work closely with business stakeholders to understand current and future needs, shape priorities, and translate these into a clear and achievable roadmap of GIS initiatives. This role balances people leadership, technical leadership, and product responsibility, ensuring GIS capabilities continue to evolve in a sustainable, user‑centred, and value‑driven way.
