Job Description Permanent, Part-time 19 hours per week $81,672.54 per annum (pro rata) plus Superannuation Join the Active Living team Hume City Council is one of Australia’s fastest growing and culturally diverse councils. What you’ll be doing: Support the Coordinator Fitness Services in the development and review of risk assessments, policies, procedures, and work instructions relating to Group Fitness Supervision and Services. Establish and promote an organisational culture committed to safety by compliance with relevant regulations, Organisational Policies and Procedures, standards, guidelines, and industry best practices. To ensure the health and safety of all members of the public using the facilities, and to be responsible for the safety of members participating in Group Fitness, Small Group Training and Outdoor Training. To ensure Group Fitness staff and Contractors CPR/First Aid/WWC and other appropriate qualifications are current and kept up to date. With support from the Coordinator Fitness Services, and in conjunction with Fitness Operations Team Leaders at all facilities, plan and facilitate recruitment and onboarding of new Group Fitness Instructors to ensure an appropriate workforce level is maintained including preparations for peak seasons. Maintain appropriate rostering, supervision, support, and performance management of Group Fitness Instructors to ensure the highest standards of safety and service delivery is always provided including regular catch ups with Group fitness staff. With the support of Coordinator Fitness Services, undertake research, conduct surveys and benchmark against Industry Standards (KPIs) other fitness facilities to provide ideas and concepts for future trends and planning requirements ensuring programs and staff are kept abreast of current industry trends. Conduct calendar events for the centre in consultation with the Coordinator Fitness Services and appropriate Hume City Council partners to ensure Group Fitness members are provided with information and opportunities for social engagement e.g. Outdoor classes, Les Mills Releases, External Events, Nutritional Programs. Work closely with members of the public, user groups and community groups to ensure appropriate customer behaviour and address any concerns in line with relevant organisational policies, procedures, and processes. On a rostered basis, or as required, act as the Duty Supervisor or as the Gymnasium Instructor. With the support of Coordinator Fitness Services and Fitness Team Leaders, develop and implement marketing and promotional activities in conjunction with Hume City Council Leisure Services management, to attract new members and to enhance the retention of existing members. Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to continuously improve systems and procedures in the Fitness area. Engage with the industry to maintain knowledge of industry best practice, trends and opportunities. Act as Chief Warden and or Area Warden as required in the case of an Emergency Evacuation. Carry out such duties as are within the limits of the employees’ skill, competence and training provided such duties do not promote a narrowing of the employee’s skill base. The incumbent is encouraged to act in the ‘On Call Leader’ position on a rostered basis. Appropriate allowances will be paid during these periods as per Hume City Councils Enterprise Agreement with relevant training provided. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role: Experience with the operation of a Leisure centre which incorporates a gymnasium and group fitness classes. Well-developed administrative skills including effective time management and organisational skills. Understanding of personnel policies and practices, including Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and an ability to supervise staff and ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Skills in providing guidance and formulation of strategies to achieve customer satisfaction in a fitness environment. Ability to identify customer needs and expectations, determine appropriate actions and respond accordingly when dealing with difficult situations, to maintain a positive Council image. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Hume Leisure’s Quality and Safety Plans and Operational Procedures. Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of public health and safety issues. including centre specific operational requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Required Certifications & Qualifications Desired Degree or Diploma in Physical Education or Fitness Leader’s Certificate (Resistance Training) with little or no experience, or lesser formal qualifications with skills and relevant industry experience. Current Provide First Aid Certificate. Current CPR Certificate. Current Employee Working with Children Check. Current Physical Activity/Fitness Australia accreditation (or in a position to gain accreditation). Current Pool Lifeguard qualification would be advantageous. Experience with the operation of a Leisure centre which incorporates a gymnasium and group fitness classes. Current driver’s licence. Why Hume City Council?
