JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Gardener to manage the garden and grounds maintenance at a variety of properties around Brisbane. The successful candidate will be managing and coordinating day-to-day maintenance activities, ensuring the outdoor spaces are safe, well-presented, and maintained to the highest standards, all within budget and in line with client expectations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience in garden or landscape maintenance, ideally in a commercial or aged care setting.
  • Strong horticultural knowledge, including plant care, turf maintenance, and pest/disease management.
  • Previous leadership or team coordination experience preferred.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise daily tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Confident in using and maintaining gardening equipment (mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers, etc.).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work respectfully in a retirement community.
  • Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing outdoor manual work in various weather conditions.
  • Relevant horticulture qualifications (Certificate III or higher) desirable.
  • Current driver’s licence essential; chemical spraying licence (AQF3) is an advantage.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a small team of gardeners to complete daily maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out a range of horticultural duties, including mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, and plant care.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance schedules to keep gardens tidy, safe, and visually appealing.
  • Monitor plant health, identify pests or diseases, and apply appropriate treatments.
  • Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely.
  • Liaise with site management and residents to ensure high service standards and minimal disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety policies.
  • Manage green waste removal and maintain clean, hazard-free outdoor areas.
  • Assist with seasonal planting, landscape improvements, and irrigation maintenance.
  • Monitor and work within the allocated maintenance budget.
