Description:

The Team Leader, Industrial Engineering executes and maintains the Industrial Engineering Management Plan and implements the scope across applicable facilities or stages of construction. Supports the Continuous Improvement framework for the business and assigns, coordinates, prioritizes and supports initiatives executed by Industrial Engineering team members. This role plans, and executes improvements to processes, tools, workstations, and equipment for high quality, efficient operations in ship construction, delivery, and repair. They manage projects/processes independently with limited supervision and can proficiently coach and review the work of lower-level professionals.

The Team Lead, Industrial Engineering works independently with minimal supervision; problems faced are potentially complex and a scientific methodology is used to analyze it, identify root causes to the problem, test solutions, and standardize successful solutions. The Team Lead, Industrial Engineering must influence stakeholders and senior leaders with a structured change management methodology and explanation of facts, policies, and practices. They will be expected to work in an assigned job scope in theoretical, practical, and/or six sigma methodologies in a shipbuilding environment as defined in the Industrial Engineering Management Plan and Continuous Improvement Framework.

  • Implement lean and six sigma methodologies, by workstation, stage of construction or equipment to standardize operations and improve efficiency
  • Support and coach team members through complex cross-functional improvement, standardization, and/or mitigation plans and projects, including creative technical problem solving and effective stakeholder management.
  • Author Processes and Procedures documenting how to stabilize and control processes in ship repair and construction.
  • Deploy and enable direct reports to develop projects and execute in alignment with Irving Management System and business goals and remove roadblocks.
  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent, professional engineer designation (P. Eng.) or ability to obtain.
  • Training and experience in lean/six sigma or other improvement methodologies, i.e. lean, green, or black belt or equivalent, or interest and ability to obtain
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding methodologies/process and experience in a shipbuilding environment
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 5+ years) in ship building, manufacturing, construction or relevant complex industrial environment with a focus on analyzing and improving operational performance.
  • Experience as an industrial engineer or subject matter expert over one or more business systems.
  • Ability to coach and direct technical and non-technical improvement projects using structured methodology.
  • Analytical problem solving on complex issues.
  • Confidently make, and advise on, risk-based technical decisions.
