The Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) is seeking a motivated and experienced Team Leader to join our Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) team. About the role The Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) scheme regulates providers of overnight respite and behaviour support for children. SSRC includes arrangements between a parent and an organisation for a child to receive care away from their usual home for short or long periods of time. The care must be for respite or behaviour support, or funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The Team Leader Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC) manages the SSRC monitoring team by providing support to achieve the key deliverables around the SSRC monitoring program. They ensure that data quality and accurate reporting are maintained for the SSRC Register, and that monitoring of SSRC providers is undertaken according to a risk-based approach. They support their team to provide capability building advice, training and monitoring assessments to SSRC providers. They escalate concerns where identified for further compliance and enforcement action. The role has a significant capability building function, whereby we work with organisations to meet the SSRC Code of Practice under the 10 Child Safe Standards, and to become safer for children. Travel will be required from time to time within NSW. To be successful in the role you will have the ability to: * Manage the day-to-day operations of the team, including risk-based work allocation, quality control, team development and continuous improvement of systems and processes. * Co-ordinate and implement monitoring activities, capability building and stakeholder engagement to ensure compliance with the SSRC Code of Practice and best practice. * Undertake project work to monitor trends, improve service provider capability and compliance, and improve child safety within the sector. * Work with key internal and external stakeholders to promote knowledge of the SSRC scheme and to coordinate activities between government and non-government stakeholders to promote the safety and wellbeing of children. * Identify and escalate contentious issues and provide high-level advice, including the preparation of briefing notes with recommended solutions. Desired skills and experience: * Demonstrated understanding of best practice in the safeguarding of children and young people, preferably in residential care, disability or out of home care environments * Experience assessing organisations and/or individuals against legislative requirements or standards in a regulatory role, internal compliance role, practice specialist role or similar * Demonstrated ability to organise a varied workload to achieve business KPIs and goals, using project management methodologies where appropriate * Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as influence and negotiation skills * Demonstrated ability to build and sustain cohesive and effective teams, maximising performance at an individual and team level. Essential requirements * Certificate IV in Government Investigations or willing to undergo studies to achieve certification. * All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current Working with Children Check. * Employment at the Office of the Children’s Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks. * The role also requires a current driver’s licence as there is travel associated with this role.
