Team Leader Recreation | Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre He angitūtanga: The opportunity This is a great leadership opportunity within a large, busy community recreation facility. As Team Leader Recreation, you will take full ownership of the Recreation function at Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre. You will lead people first, grow the business, and drive the strategic development of recreation services across two large stadiums and multiple bookable spaces. This role goes well beyond programme delivery. You will be a key member, contributing to centre-wide planning, performance, and decision-making. You will work closely with a visionary and supportive Centre Manager and alongside a dynamic leadership team to lift outcomes for customers, staff, and the wider community. The Recreation function includes: Leadership of a multi-disciplinary recreation team Programmes across two large indoor stadiums Court and dry space hire and utilisation optimisation OSCAR school holiday programmes Community and competition sports leagues Events, functions, and bookable space activation You will be accountable for people leadership, service quality, stakeholder relationships, financial performance, and the continued growth and relevance of the recreation offer. He kōrero mōu: About you This role is suited to a proven people leader and emerging business leader who is ready to take ownership of the recreation function and move it forward. You will bring: A minimum of 4+ years proven people leadership experience, with clear evidence of leading, developing, and holding teams to account Demonstrated experience growing a business, service, or operational function, including increasing participation, utilisation, or overall performance The ability to translate strategic direction into practical operational initiatives, delivering measurable outcomes at a service level Strong commercial and operational judgement, with the ability to identify opportunities and implement improvements that strengthen performance Confidence operating at a leadership table and contributing constructively beyond your own function Demonstrated success in building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships across a range of internal and external partners You will also demonstrate: A clear commitment to Te Ao Māori practices and culturally responsive leadership Proven ability to lead through change and build capability Strong planning and prioritisation skills, sound judgement in a fast‑paced environment, and a practical, solutions‑focused leadership approach with a strong sense of ownership Preferred but not mandatory: Sport and Recreation qualification Tertiary qualification Experience within, or a strong understanding of, local government or complex public organisations This is a permanent full-time role, 40 hours per week, rostered across 7 days. Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends is required.
