This role suits someone who thrives on developing people, strengthening technical capability, and shaping high‑quality building consent practice across Tāmaki Makaurau. You’ll lead a team of experienced trainers who provide technical regulatory training to the department. You will also recruit and support the Graduates within building consents throughout their journey in the graduate programme at Auckland Council.   Your leadership will help maintain accreditation, lift technical capability and ensure high standards are upheld across our building control functions as well as enabling developmental pathways for career opportunities within the department and the sector.   Day-to-day you could expect to work on:   Leading, coaching, and developing the Technical Training team to deliver high quality training for all staff performing technical functions Identifying training needs, supporting tailored development of training material, and strengthening capability in technical delivery and effective learning outcomes Be instrumental in the development, delivery and maintenance of certain training programmes within the department, such as the Auckland Council Training Schools (Residential and Commercial) Provide a core Graduate Liaison/ mentoring role for all Building Consent Graduates while they are on the Graduate Programme Provide a core mentoring role for all Building Consent Cadets while they are on the Programme Develop and maintain a key competency development framework for all technical roles within the department which fosters a strong career and capability uplift pathway for all technical staff Analysing audit findings, recommending improvements, and supporting implementation of training across the region.   Click HERE for a copy of the Position Description       He kōrero mōu: About you This role requires experience in similar technical leadership roles, with a sound understanding of building control functions and the delivery of training. You’ll be someone who enjoys guiding others, building strong relationships, and creating an environment where technical excellence can thrive. Your ability to interpret core learning needs, support the development of new technical staff and ensure there are functioning developmental pathways for all staff will be key to your success.   We will be looking for specific experience with:   Technical and applied knowledge of the, Building Act, NZ Building Code, Local Government Act and any other act that may be relevant to this role and function. Leading teams in construction related discipline or regulatory environments, preferably with training experience Technical training, assessment, and capability development. Working collaboratively in project or cross‑functional teams.
