THE POSITION
We are seeking an enthusiastic innovator to lead a small team that will assess, trial, evaluate and operationalise technology that improves field management of the Marine Parks and Island National Parks in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. You will work with field staff, marine park users and technology suppliers and developers to identify opportunities to improve efficacy, efficiency and safety through technology in field management activities, be able to assess the pros and cons of adopting such technology and be able to map out and support a pathway to adoption.
You will focus mainly on innovation and technologies that improve compliance management, for example vessel tracking systems, remotely operated vessels and drones and field reporting systems. However, you will work across other field management activities such as incident response and reef and island conservation actions.
You will ensure that technologies are integrated with data management and visualisation systems and tools. To achieve this, you will need to work closely with other people in the Reef Authority and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service as well as external collaborators and providers, to match Reef Joint Field Management Program needs with innovation and technology solutions. You will further need to turn potential technologies into on ground action and operational delivery by working with a cross section of Reef Joint Field Management Program staff. You will be able to consider how technology can achieve improvements in safety for staff in the field.
