JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Tree Surgery Team Leader to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in tree care and maintenance, as well as leadership qualities to effectively manage a team on various projects.
This role requires a proactive approach to planning, executing, and overseeing tree surgery operations while ensuring high safety and quality standards.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Proven experience in tree surgery, arboriculture, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a team leader or supervisory role is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of tree maintenance practices, including pruning, felling techniques, and tree health assessments.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools, including chainsaws, hedge trimmers, and stump grinders.
  • Ability to read site plans and execute tree work in line with client specifications.
  • A good understanding of health and safety regulations, including LOLER and PUWER.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant NPTC/LANTRA certifications (e.g., CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39).
  • Full UK driving licence (preferably with towing entitlement).
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Relevant arboriculture or forestry qualifications (desirable but not essential).
Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee a team of tree surgeons and grounds staff, ensuring efficient and safe work practices.
  • Undertake tree maintenance tasks, including planting, pruning, felling, and removal of trees and shrubs.
  • Ensure the correct and safe use of tools, machinery, and climbing equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, and MEWPs.
  • Perform stump grinding and tree preservation tasks where necessary.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Plan and allocate work schedules, ensuring projects are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentorship, and support to junior team members.
  • Liaise with clients, site managers, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and project expectations.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment, reporting any faults or maintenance needs.
