Position Summary: Deli Team Members assist customers at the deli counter by helping them sample and select meats and cheeses and slicing and packaging the products for purchase. Deli Team Member responsibilities include responding to customer questions and complaints, distributing product samples, assisting customers as they select meats and cheeses; and slicing, packaging, pricing items for purchase; and filling and organizing merchandisers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing responsive, exceptional service to deli counter customers by answering questions, making recommendations, providing samples, and responding to requests
  • Recommending, slicing, weighing packaging, and pricing meats and cheeses,
  • Prepared special orders and party trays
  • Updating displays, cases, and other customer-facing areas to ensure new items and promotions are showcased
  • Ensuring that work areas are ready to service customers by cleaning surfaces, equipment, and floors; removing trash; and confirming that tools are in working order
  • Following all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies
  • Cooperating with others to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Confirming that all displays, products, and services comply with company standards
  • Maintaining basic knowledgeability of products, their qualities, and prices
  • Performing training as needed
  • Regular, predictable attendance for scheduled shifts

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide deli training as assigned
  • Maintain product backstock according to first-in-first-out food safety principles
  • Recommend products and procedures to the Executive Chef
  • Receive and stock orders

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Deli counter and/or prepared foods experience is preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to operate meat and cheese slices and scales
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • A courteous and efficient approach to handling customer requests, questions, and complaints
  • Familiarity with and willingness to comprehend and follow all company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and sanitation.

Special Considerations:
Working conditions include a fast-paced retail environment that involves long intervals of standing, crouching, and reaching while moving product. Exposure cold temperatures while performing work in coolers. Exposure to hot temperatures while performing work in the kitchen. Outdoor work is required.
Language Skills: intermediate.
Mathematical Skills: intermediate.
Reasoning Ability: intermediate.
Equipment used: meat & cheese slicers, cardboard baler, trash compactor, knives
Computer skills: basic.
Hours per Week: Full-Time (40 Hour per Week)
