Description:

If you are looking for a way to volunteer with one of our teams without being on the front line, then the Team Support Volunteer role is the one for you. The Heritage team is a small team of one Curator and one Archivist who manage our museum and archives and work on and off site. After training with them on-site, you will be required to work quite independently to support our cataloguing or archiving. By volunteering in this role, you’ll be supporting us with vital cataloguing, digitising and careful storage of items for our museum and archives, to support our busy team in the preservation of our fascinating history. Why we want you: We need volunteers to help us ‘behind the scenes’ for 1 full day per week. You will be assisting the heritage team behind the scenes by lending a hand with cataloguing, undertaking some admin tasks and packing items for storage. Whatever you do, you will be getting involved in a great cause. What you will be doing: On a typical day, the Archives Volunteer would check-in with the Archivist via video call or in person and be set up with their tasks, which may include: - Repackaging and boxing of new acquisitions (archives records), and storing on shelves - Cataloguing of new acquisitions – Write catalogue descriptions following in-house guidelines. Training will be given to use the cataloguing software. - Scanning of archive material in order to make them available online– volunteer will be trained on using scanner. All work will take place on site in the museum and archives storeroom. Please note, our museum and archives storeroom is not wheelchair accessible. The skills you need: - Good communication skills. - Reliable, organised, and able to work independently or as part of a team. - Flexible and willing to help the team with a range of tasks. - Good IT skills. - The ability to lift heavy boxes. What’s in it for you: - Meet new people and be part of a dynamic and inclusive team. - A great opportunity to use your existing skills or gain new ones. - All training and induction for the role (there is no charge for training). - Reasonable pre-agreed travel expenses for the role including for attending training. - Technology provided if needed. - An opportunity to be part of the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and the knowledge that you are making a difference to people’s lives. Diversity Diversity is something we celebrate. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross and feel that you belong. We want to create an inclusive environment and promote and spread the power of kindness. As part of creating an inclusive space we have an expenses policy that prioritises volunteers not being out of pocket for expenses linked to your role. If upfront costs are difficult, you can speak to your volunteering manager about this to find alternatives. We welcome refugees, asylum seekers and others currently in the UK to volunteer with us. We want volunteering to be accessible to everyone. Health and Safety Statement We take an individual approach to ensuring your safety. We may ask you to complete a simple risk assessment and will also have a conversation with you to discuss and identify any adjustments you may need.
Why we want you: We need volunteers to help us ‘behind the scenes’. It’s up to you how you choose to help. You could be lending a hand with marketing, undertaking some admin tasks, offering your specialist knowledge or supporting in another way. Whatever you do, you will be getting involved in a great cause. Diversity is something we celebrate, and we want you to be able to bring your authentic self to the Red Cross. We want you to feel that you are in an inclusive environment, and a great position to help us spread the power of kindness.
