Description
Nexl is looking for a Tech Lead who is technically excellent, genuinely AI-first in how they build, and a strong coach who raises the people around them. This role is about guiding one of Nexl's cross-functional squads — shaping architecture, setting the AI-first engineering standard, and helping ideas become products customers love.  You'll work closely with the Head of Engineering, CPTO, and your Product Manager, owning technical direction and delivery quality for your squad. You're accountable for how the team builds and ships, including embedding AI-first workflows that let the squad move at a pace and quality level that genuinely changes what's possible.  This is a high ownership role for someone who loves building, coaching, and making decisions and who wants to be deeply embedded in how a fast-growing LegalTech company scales its engineering organisation. The right person will be equally comfortable writing code, reviewing architecture, running a difficult 1:1, and debating product trade-offs with their PM.  * Lead the technical direction of your squad, guiding architectural choices and ensuring alignment withNexl'sbroader platform and engineering strategy. * Stay in the codebase — contributing to features, reviewing AI-generated and hand-written code, andsettingthe quality bar through your own work, not just your words. * Set the AI-first standard for your squad. Build and share the workflows, tooling choices, and prompting approaches that let engineers ship more, at higher quality — and hold the team to that standard. * Coach engineers on system design, problem-solving, and AI-native development — helping them grow into more autonomous, higher-output engineers. * Work closely with your Product Manager to shape roadmap priorities, refine requirements, and balance technical debt with new feature delivery. * Drive best practices in testing, CI/CD, observability, and reliability — and make sure AI-generated code meets the same bar as everything else. * Anticipate risks, remove blockers, and create clarity where ambiguity exists — so the squad can move fast without going wrong. * Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering leadership to create scalable, performant, and secure solutions. Must haves: * Proven experience as a Senior Engineer or Tech Lead within a high-growth SaaS or technology company. * Genuinely AI-first in how you build — you use AI agents, agentic coding tools, and automated workflows as your primary development mode, and you lead others to do the same. * Strongexpertisein at least one major part ofNexl'sstack (React/TypeScript, Ruby on Rails). * A track recordof strong architectural decision-making and navigating technical trade-offs under real delivery pressure. * Ability to balance hands-on coding with technical leadership, mentoring, and clear communication. * Demonstrated ability to coach and inspire engineers, raise engineering quality, and build healthy team dynamics. * High ownership and accountability mindset, with a strong bias toward outcomes and continuous improvement. Nice to haves: * Experience building or scaling multi-tenant SaaS applications. * Exposure to AI/LLM-powered product development. * Experience working in a modern squad model or product-ledorganisation. * Familiarity withGraphQL,WebSockets,gRPC, or real-time systems. * Background in LegalTech, Martech, CRM platforms, or workflow automation products.
