EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire or within 30 days of start date and maintain certification throughout employment. This must be obtained prior to providing patient care.

Must possess one of the following:

  • 2 years’ experience providing patient care
  • EMT Certification
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, sit, stand, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, moving about in work area and throughout hospital to accomplish tasks, finger (i.e. pick or type), and grasp
  • Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken work, conveying information to others in audible,accurate and on occasion quick manner.
  • Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Must be able to address and prioritize multiple tasks demands within established time frames.
  • Must be able to concentrate on work amid distractions such as noise, conversations, and foot traffic; must be able to consistently meet deadlines regardless of case load; must be flexible in work hours in order to meet patient and organization operating needs.
  • Must maintain self-control in volatile or hostile situations when verbally or physically confronted.
  • Must be able to set therapeutic limits and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintains therapeutic boundaries with patients during treatment and following discharge.
  • Must be able to physically assist with the restraint of patients when necessary for the safety of the patient and others (including holding, grasping, pushing and/or pulling variable body weight).

  2. Maintain current BLS.
  3. Handle with Care certification current.
  4. Attends 80% of departmental staff meetings.
  5. Attends required in-service trainings.
  6. Demonstrate proper Infection Control procedures by consistently using standard precautions.
  7. Presents a neat, professional appearance consistent with the hospital dress code.
  8. Complies with local, state, federal and JC standards and guidelines.
  9. Adheres to safety policy and procedures to promote safe work practices.
  10. Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures specific to position/department.
  11. Maintains proper boundaries when interacting with patients and their families and co-workers.
  12. Seeks direction or clarification from Supervisor when necessary.
  13. Treats patients with respect according to patient rights and responsibilities.
  14. Communicates in a positive, compassionate and professional manner with patients, staff and visitors.
  15. Checks all mail and correspondence and responds to requests in a timely manner.
  16. Demonstrates “cultural competence” by awareness of cultural differences and the impact of one’s own personal and professional values and attitudes (i.e., biases, transference and
    counter transference issues) on the values and attitudes of others, and willingness to adjust to
    the cultural differences of patients and families, and co-worker when working with them.
  17. Complies with hospital attendance policy.
