Job Requirements The Patient Care Technician delivers direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, performing duties in accordance with the Maryland Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act. Key responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, assisting with specimen collection and phlebotomy, providing comfort measures, monitoring and documenting patient conditions, supporting various medical procedures, and ensuring patient safety and dignity. Additional tasks involve preparing equipment, performing post-mortem care, initiating CPR when required, adhering to infection control protocols, completing accurate documentation, and contributing to staff orientation and ongoing education. This full-time role demands effective collaboration with the healthcare team to uphold high standards of patient care. Work Experience Education and experience requirements for the Tech Patient Care UN position include a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), Maryland Nursing Assistant Certification, and completion of an approved training program such as a hospital-based program, community college, Emergency Medical Technician, or Medical Corpsmen. Equivalent on-the-job training may be considered in lieu of formal training. A minimum of one year of recent direct patient care experience is preferred, along with current CPR certification. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in applying universal safety precautions, responding effectively in emergency situations, and delivering care that addresses the unique needs of diverse patient populations across all age groups. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required to ensure effective collaboration with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.
