OUR COMPANY The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. Our mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid.   YOUR IMPACT The Technical Advisor will provide support and consultation for Standards and Engineering, departmental and ERO Enterprise coordination, and other strategic risk management and reliability initiatives. This person is a primary point of contact and technical subject matter expert for matters related to reliability standards and other identified power risks. The Technical Advisor is abreast of the variety of risks posed to the Bulk Electric System (BES), and is able to translate and respond to highly technical and complex issues in a meaningful and thoughtful manner. This person is communicative and diplomatic in their approach to handling inquiries, meeting with key stakeholders, and leading projects.    The Technical Advisor reports to the Manager, Power Risk Issues and Strategic Management.   YOUR ROLE * Identifies and analyzes emerging risks from a variety of sources, and assists with determining if new or revised Reliability Standards are warranted * Leads complex and multi-disciplinary projects related to Reliability Standards * Participates in cross-departmental Gap Analysis process  * Supports and consults on multiple standards development projects as a lead technical resource for the Standard Authorization Request (SAR) Reliability Standard, or Request for Interpretation (RFI) * Helps prepares and review initial draft SAR when projects are initiated by NERC * Responds to internal and external requests for information and inquiries for a breadth of questions on risks to the BPS * Serves as liaison or NERC representative with multiple technical and non-technical committees, trades, regions, and organizations * Identifies and prioritizes incoming work-streams, including RFIs and SARs from the industry * Works with analysts to develop department Internal Controls and ensures Internal Controls are followed within the department  * Develops ERO positions around existing and emerging threats to BPS reliability leveraging industry expertise in conjunction with data and statistical analysis to support initiatives * Aiding and assisting cross departmental assessments on the reliability of the Bulk Power System, including Probabilistic Assessments * Other duties and responsibilities as assigned   Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering field and/or 10 years of related experience * Power System Planning experience, including Probabilistic Assessments * Expertise in Reliability Standards and the NERC’s Reliability Standards development process * Proficiency in system operations and planning * Quick learner with the ability to grasp new technology and respond as needed to create project plans and develop mitigation strategies * Strategic thinker with vision for the direction of standards efficiency and improvement * Strong interpersonal skills, customer service oriented. Ability to interface with internal and external customers * Previous work experience in a high-volume production environment is desirable * Ability to work independently and ability to manage multiple projects and accept shifting priorities * Excellent word processing skills including ability to use advanced formatting with Microsoft Word * Exceptional focus and attention to detail with skills in proofing, editing, or other detailed work * Excellent oral and written communications skills * Ability to lead a team or task force as needed to tackle deliverables   Other * A background check will be conducted prior to employment. * In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. * This position has been classified as exempt. * The position may be based remotely but must be able to travel to NERC offices, if needed.
