About the Role
For informal enquiries, please contact Katherine Branch (Director of Operations) k.branch@warwick.ac.uk

The Department of Physics is seeking an experienced individual to join our busy and vibrant community as Technical and Building Services Manager. This exciting and varied role involves leading and managing a comprehensive range of Technical Services within the Department, supporting our strategic goals relating to both teaching and research.
This role is also responsible for management of the Department’s buildings and facilities, ensuring that our physical space meets our current and future teaching and research needs and provides a safe environment for all staff, students and visitors.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to grow their technical leadership skills in an academic environment- particularly with a major construction project underway that will not only deliver state-of-the-art facilities for our future teaching and research activities but will also drive innovation in how we work.
The University of Warwick is a proud founding signatory of the Technician Commitment. In 2021 we rolled out our Technician Job Family and in 2023 launched our Technical Specialist Promotional Pathway, the second of its kind in the UK. We support our technical community through regular TechNet events, run a twice-yearly Warwick Technician Commitment Award for Outstanding Achievement, and have a fair attribution policy for research. To ensure our Technician Commitment meets the needs of our technical community, we proactively engage with Technicians incorporating their ideas and suggestions into our action plan wherever possible. We aim to establish Warwick as a ‘go-to employer’ for those looking to fulfil their potential in a technical career.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and proactive technical leader with substantial experience in the core areas of responsibility, including managing teams, projects, and facilities at a senior level. You will bring a broad understanding of the technical infrastructure and facilities found in an experimental physics or engineering research and teaching environment, and the related building maintenance and servicing challenges.
Your profile will combine strong technical expertise with proven leadership capabilities, excellent communication skill, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to ensuring safety and compliance within a dynamic academic setting like the Department of Physics at the University of Warwick.
Your interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills should be exceptional and you will be able to demonstrate an ability to articulate, influence, negotiate and challenge in a professional manner. You will have a track record of working collaboratively and establishing professional relationships with academic, technical and professional services colleagues and all external stakeholders. You will be an experienced and supportive manager, capable of coaching, mentoring and training others as well as leading through change.
You will thrive in a fast-paced and complex environment, and be able to self-motivate, work on your own initiative, and think creatively whilst managing multiple projects. You will also demonstrate the ability to interpret complex instructions, analyse requirements, and implement detailed technical specifications.
With experience of implementing high standards and ensuring compliance to health and safety requirements in a technical setting, you will have good working knowledge of relevant legislative requirements.
Your educational background should include a Science or Engineering Degree (or equivalent qualification), or the equivalent professional work experience.
